Inscription.  German:

English Translation:
The St. Pankratius Church stands in the center of the medieval town center on the oldest church square in Schwetzingen. Its name goes back to the early Christian martyr Saint Pankratius, who was recorded in 1435 as the patron saint of the parish churches in Swettzingen.

The small village church was destroyed in the Thirty Years' War. For a long time it was the only church in the town that housed Catholic and Protestant believers, depending on the denomination of the ruler. It was only during the division of the Palatinate churches in 1705 that the hastily rebuilt church was given to the Catholics.

The church took on its current appearance in the 18th century. On March 11, 1737, the foundation stone was laid for the new building, in which the electoral court architects Sigismund Zeller, Franz Wilhelm Rabaliatti and Nicolas de Pigage were involved. The east tower, built in 1750, is based on a design by Rabaliatti, while the early classicist entrance façade is the work of the Lunéville architect Nicolas de Pigage.

During the construction work, the cemetery near the church was relocated in 1758, of which a few gravestones
