Peekskill in Westchester County, New York — The American Northeast (Mid-Atlantic)
Brothers in Arms Meet Again

Inscription.
Nearly a year after their victory over the British at Yorktown, Virginia, the allied French and American armies reunited in September 1782 for a final goodbye near Peekskill. The French
Army encamped here in Peekskill from September 17-23.
On September 20th, Washington reviewed the French Army at Verplanck's Point. He had the honor of presenting the French cross of the order of Saint Louis to French officers who had served with distinction. Two days later, the Continental Army paraded in return. The formerly ragtag American troops now impressed the French officers.
I passed along the camp with pleasure, astonishment and admiration (as) I beheld in this army the same which formerly had no other uniform than a cap, on which was written Liberty. Comment by French Prince de Broglie who was present at the 1782 review of the American Army at Verplanck's Point[Captions]
