Inscription.
The year is 1878 and the first Pennsylvania Railroad train arrived in Wheeling from Steubenville OH. The Sunday News Letter has begun publication. Wheeling's population is slightly under 30,000 and the Iron Market House with 28 years of success has created a business depot in this area of Wheeling.

George E. Zink, a cabinetmaker, built his house on this lot in 1878. The Victorian Italianate style reflects the popular design of the day. Zink operated his cabinet shop on the first floor, with his private residence directly above, following the trend of the day. The twin adjoining structure was a rental property, providing housing for Wheeling's growing population.
