1. Caboose # 477813 Marker
This caboose is of the N5B series of cabooses made by the Pennsylvania Railroad in 1941. It was built in the Juniata Shops, Altoona PA. There were a total of 200 N5B cabooses made with the numbers: 477620 through 477819. Its dimensions are: 30 feet 7 ½ inches long, 9 feet 8 inches wide, and 13 feet 5 inches high. The total weight of the caboose is 43,150 pounds.
The NB5 [sic - N5B] was a crewed North American railcar coupled to the end of a train. It provided shelter for the Flagman and rear Brakeman who looked out for shifting loads, assisted in switching, looked for damage to equipment, and overheated axles.
