1. Caboose #21024 Marker
This CONRAIL caboose is of the N7B series. These cabooses were built by the New York Central Dispatch Shops. There were a total of 100 made, numbers 21000 through 21099. This caboose was the 25th built in 1998 [sic]. Its dimensions are: 27 feet 7½ inches long, 10 feet 7 1/4 inches wide, and 11 feet 9 5/8 inches high. The total weight of the caboose is 48,600 pounds.
This caboose was a crewed North American railcar coupled to the end of a train. It provided shelter for the Flagman and rear Brakeman who looked out for shifting loads, assisted in switching, looked for damage to equipment, and overheated axles.
