Thomaston's Business Block
The original center of town was located at the intersection of U.S. Route 1 and Route 131 South, known as the "Lower Corner". In the mid-nineteenth century, the town center moved west to its present location. The old buildings, which retain their exterior charm, have changed little over the years. The original sidewalk was made of wood planks and although the road has since been paved, the character of the business district remains substantially unchanged, just a little more encumbered by traffic and by electric and telephone lines.
