Utilizing & Renting Our Facilities

Special events such as our annual Memorial Day Celebration, the Cannon Ball fundraiser and military concerts, help Soldiers & Sailors fulfill its mission to serve the community. Facility rentals of our Grand Ballroom and Auditorium provide an opportunity for the public to use Soldiers & Sailors as a distinguished alternative to conventional venues for a refined and formal event or for a more casual affair.

Experiencing Our Museum

The original plan for Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall in 1910 did not include a museum. The need for display space was realized when donations began to come to the Memorial in the form of paintings, swords, uniforms and Civil War artifacts. In order to accommodate the artifacts a committee was established to accept items for the Museum.

In 1910, the first piece donated to the Memorial Hall was a large painting commissioned and donated by Col. J. M. Schoonmaker, titled "Charge of the 14th Pa Cavalry at Winchester Sept. 19, 1864" by renown military artist Thure de Thulstrup. The painting, still on display, illustrates Colonel Schoonmaker leading the charge for which he later received the Medal of Honor.

Donating Your Artifacts

Veterans and their families have found Soldiers & Sailors to be a meaningful depository for artifacts such as uniforms, flags, photos, medals, swords and rifles. Many of the historic pieces are displayed in the museum and others are archived for future study. The collection not only reflects the history of our region but also the generosity of our community.
