1. The Clock Tower Marker
Inscription.
Constructed in 1916, the Ghirardelli Square Clock Tower has become an iconic symbol for the square, and is among several buildings here that was selected for inclusion in the National Register of Historical Places. For many years, the Clock Tower housed the original Ghirardelli Chocolate Factory whistle, which blew not only as a farewell to factory family members sailing by on ocean liners, but also as a salute to ships deployed for World Wars I and II, and the Korean War.
