Heilige Nicolaaskerk
⎯⎯⎯
St. Nicholas Church
Inscription.

Roman Catholic church of the parish of St. Nicholas
Around 1650, a clandestine church was built behind the current church, which was expanded with a confessional chapel in +/- 1750. In 1825, this chapel was enlarged and the entrance was located on the most important canal of Edam, the Voorhaven. Because Volendammers also went to church in Edam at that time, the need soon arose to enlarge the church.
In 1847, the new parish church could be consecrated. The work was carried out under the supervision of the Waterstaat (the agency controlling water flows). That is why the church is called a Waterstaat church. The rectory on the left was built against the church in 1870.
