Der nach dem Zweitakt-Verfahren arbeitende Motor mit 24 Zylindern und Kraftstoffeinspritzung hat einen Hubraum von 850 L und leistet 12.600 PS. Im hellgrauen Gehäuse an der linken Stirnseite des Motors befindet sich zur Leistungssteigerung ein Turbolader.
Dieser damals hochmoderne Motortyp wurde in erster Linie zum Antrieb von Kriegsschiffen verwendet. Für einen Zerstörer wurden sechs dieser Motoren gekoppelt, wodurch sich eine Gesamtleistung von rund 75.000 PS ergab. Überlebt hat der Motor die Kriegsereignisse im MAN Werk in Augsburg. Unser Dank gilt der Firma MAN, die diesen eindrucksvollen Motor dem Museum als Schenkung überlassen hat.

The 2-stroke engine with fuel injection is equipped with 24 cylinders with a total capacity of 850 liters and generates an output of 12,600 hp. The bright grey casing at the left front side of the engine contains a turbo charger for performance enhancement.
This then state-of-art engine type was mainly used for powering warships. For a destroyer six such engines were coupled resulting in a total engine performance of about 75,000 hp. This engine survived the war in the MAN factory in Augsburg. Our thanks go to the MAN company, which donated this impressive engine to the museum.
