At 27, Charlottetown’s George Godfrey was considered old to start a professional career. In 1879, he debuted in Boston and knocked out three heavyweight fighters. Despite his late start, George had an illustrious 16-year career, including five years as the World Colored Heavyweight Champion. He hung up his gloves in 1895, opened a boxing school in Boston, and trained other renowned Island boxers, like George Byers.,
