Inscription.  
At 27, Charlottetown’s George Godfrey was considered old to start a professional career. In 1879, he debuted in Boston and knocked out three heavyweight fighters. Despite his late start, George had an illustrious 16-year career, including five years as the World Colored Heavyweight Champion. He hung up his gloves in 1895, opened a boxing school in Boston, and trained other renowned Island boxers, like George Byers.

À 27 ans, George Godfrey, de Charlottetown, était considéré comme vieux pour commencer une carrière professionnelle. En 1879, il a fait ses débuts à Boston et a mis au tapis trois poids lourds. Malgré ses débuts tardifs, George a connu une illustre carrière de 16 ans, dont cinq ans en tant que champion du monde des poids lourds de couleur. Il a pris sa retraite de la compétition en 1895, a ouvert une école de boxe à Boston et a entraîné d'autres boxeurs renommés de l'Île, comme George Byers.
