Regarding Oxford, MA World War I Memorial. The acronym S.A.T.C. in the marker stands for Student Army Training Corps, a program created by the U.S. War Department in 1917. It allowed young men to get a college education while simultaneously undergoing military training in preparation for joining the army after completing their studies. The program was disbanded in 1919 upon the conclusion of World War I.
