Westborough, MA 9/11 Memorial. .
“Our first line of defense” Dedicated to all first responders . On September 11, 2001 our country came under attack by terrorists, the worst attack ever on American soil. That day, emergency personnel responded to attacks in New York City, Washington D.C. and Shanksville, Pennsylvania. On that day hundreds of first responders lost their lives and thousands more were severely injured. ,
“We will never forget”. On September 11, 2001 American Airlines Flight 11 and United Flight 175 took off from Logan airport in Boston. While in flight, both planes were hijacked by terrorists and flown into the twin towers of the World Trade Center in New York City. The ensuing fire caused both towers to collapse killing and injuring thousands. This piece of steel was recovered from that site, which became known as “Ground Zero” and donated to the town of Westborough for this memorial. ,
Washington D.C. under attack. On September 11, 2001 American Airlines Flight 77 took off from Dulles airport in Washington D.C. with 64 people on board. The plane was hijacked while in flight and destroyed when flown into the Pentagon building, killing an additional 125 people on the ground. The shape of this memorial is dedicated to all that were injured or killed 412 miles from here in Washington D.C. ,
“Let's Roll”. On September 11, 2001 United Flight 93 took off from Newark International Airport in New Jersey with 38 passengers and a crew of 7. While in flight the plane was hijacked by terrorists. Passengers on board knew about the other hijacked planes and took action. “Let's Roll” was their call for action. The passengers overpowered the terrorists and the plane crashed in Shanksville, Pennsylvania killing all on board. It was believed that plane was headed towards another target location in Washington, D.C. ,
Westborough's Loss. On September 11, 2001 Westborough residents Robin Kaplan and Linda George lost their lives when their American Airlines plane Flight 11 from Boston was hijacked and flown into the north tower at the World Trade Center in New York City. This was the start of the “War on Terror”.
