The Cottage Era

Holland Avenue was named after Colonel William F. Holland of Savannah, Georgia. On this street, he built both Graycote Cottage (1878), now on the National Register of Historic Places, and Primrose Cottage (1878). Baron and Baroness Hengelmuller were the most famous residents to live in Castlemaine Cottage (1886); he was the Ambassador from Austro-Hungary to the United States until the outbreak of World War I.
