1. Burggarten und Bastionen / Castle Gardens and Bastions Marker
Inscription.  German:

They were intended to provide protection from the new firearms and were unique in terms of size and design. The huge pointed bastions were based on Italian models. The fortifications were given additional protection by a broad, deep moat as well as a retaining wall. After 1945, flowerbeds were laid out on the main bastion and the lower bastion. The landscape gardening is based on plans from the 19th century. From 1678 to 1751, the upper bastion now planted with trees - the so-called Sweden or Vestner Gate Bastion was the location of one of the most important astronomical observatories in Europe at that time. The earliest castle gardens, first mentioned in the 15th century, no longer exist. The gardens of Kaiser Friedrich (1415-1493) lay on the southern side of the Kaiserburg and are said to have been based on the legendary Hanging Gardens of Babylon.
