Bronco Bobbi’s

In 1906 this building was the Dixie Photo Company. As automobiles became more available, Sargent and Cherrington Garage opened here. Harry Langdon operated a photography business for several years during World War II and Daly Jewelry opened at this site in the late 1940s. Other businesses occupying this space included the “Toggery”, a clothing store, and Lee’s Indian Store before it moved to 83 North Main Street. The beginning of the twenty-first century found this building a combined video rental store and ice cream parlor. Bronco Bobbi’s occupied this space from 2007 to 2013, selling a variety of collectibles, antiques and décor pieces. Since then it has housed Little L’s Bakery and a Mexican restaurant.

The elaborate metal façade on this nineteenth century building was manufactured in St. Louis by the Mesker Brothers and ordered through the Sears and Roebuck Catalog. In 1905 the Cameron and Sevy Store merged with the local co-op to form Southern Utah Equitable or S.U.E. and occupied the building. During the Great Depression, J. Frank Houston purchased all of the stockholder shares in the business to become the store’s sole owner. For over 80 years the S.U.E. offered household goods, groceries, toys and farm supplies

for sale. As the S.U.E. prospered, the owner added the smaller building on the left with apartments on the upper floor and more retail space below. When the S.U.E closed in 1987 and another major retailer, the S&C Mercantile, burned a few years later, it was the ed of an era on Panguitch Main Street. The Thunder Horse Mercantile and Buffalo Java Coffeehouse occupied the space for a limited time and closed in 2000.
