Ypre Charter Stones
The area in which the charter was valid, was clearly delimited with stone boundary posts. This area was called the sheriffdom because the sheriffs of the city were entitled to administer justice in it.
The city's coat of arms in its simplest form was carved out in the post: a cross with a double crossbar.
Only one of these boundary posts has been preserved.
