Federal Building
The north half of the Federal Building was built in 1903-04 using brick, stone and concrete. Renaissance Revival in style, it features a high basement of cut stone, raised brick corners, and a mix of flat, segmental and arched window surrounds tied together with central keystones. It was doubled in size with an addition to the south in 1932-33. The architectural style of the original design was skillfully duplicated under the direction of J. A. Whitmore.

River Inn
Constructed in the Medieval Revival style, the River Inn is meant to resemble a castle. Its massive appearance is highlighted by wrought iron doors, corner turrets, an otter relief near the roofline and Bedford stone trim with red-faced brick.
The hotel, which opened in February 1929 was the social center of Fergus Falls for many years. The hotel featured a lower level ballroom and a coffee shop and restaurant on the main floor. A room with a bath cost $4.50 per night while a room without a bath was $1.75.

City Hall
Elmer Adams and Vernon Wright donated land for a new city hall after fire destroyed the old one in 1927. Before making the donation, Wright stipulated that William Ingemann be named as architect. Out of respect for Wright's New England background, Ingemann chose a colonial design.
Although the 1929 Fergus Falls City Hall has been compared to Independence Hall, Ingemann denied using the Philadelphia landmark as a model.
