Excerpt: The Peterborough Club was established as a local "Society of Gentlemen" about 1872. The men's club operated for several years but disbanded only to be re-organized on November 10, 1900 with 42 active members. The Club was located in the Crown Hotel (south-east corner of Hunter and Water Streets), then above the Bank of Commerce Building. In September 1909 the Peterborough Club purchased the former Bank of Montreal (south-east corner of Water and Simcoe Streets) as their headquarters. The Club remained in this location until a fire seriously damaged the 150 year old landmark about 1992. The building was sold in 1994 and converted into a dance bar. The Peterborough Club relocated and continues to operate to this day.(Submitted on November 14, 2024, by Cosmos Mariner of Cape Canaveral, Florida.)
