Inscription. Originally built at the corner of Bailey Road and Periwinkle Way in 1895, it was moved to a more central Periwinkle Way location in 1902. An additional room was attached in the 1930s, which has since been removed. This one-room schoolhouse served all island white children until 1963. Another school, now Lily's Jewelers on Tarpon Bay Road, served the islands black children. This school for white children closed in 1963 when a new school was built. One year later, both black and white parents on the island petitioned to have the new school integrated, and in 1964, it became the first integrated school in Lee County. After this school was vacated, it was used as an island theater. When it was moved to the Historical Village In 2005, it was restored to its 1920 appearance.
