1. Antique Coal Car Marker
Coal cars like this one were used from the mid 1800's until the mid 1900's to haul coal out of hand-worked underground coal mines. The cars were first pulled by mine ponies prior to the introduction of diesel or electric engines. These cars were loaded by hand and weighed on the outside of the mine; miners were paid according to the weight of coal they loaded.
