1. G.A.R. Building Marker

Inscription. The Grand Army of the Republic Building was erected after the conflagration of February, 1914. The hall on the second floor served the G.A.R., Sons of Veterans and Women's Relief Corps. In 1925, the American Legion purchased the building and used the upper floor for its meetings as well. The first floor was designed for a moving picture theater. It had a double booth for two movie machines with a novel descending floor toward the stage which furnished an unobstructed view from all seats. The theater ran continuously until 1991 when the Pittsfield Players assumed ownership.

It is inside a recessed entryway.

a 1.5-mile loop trail developed by the Pittsfield Historical Society. The trail stops at three dozen historical sites that were typical of New England communities more than a century ago: homes, churches, schools, industrial and commercial buildings as well as dams and bridges.
