1. Reading Railroad Signal Tower Marker
Inscription.

This signal tower for the Reading Railroad was placed here in 1950. It replaced individual watchmen at the three crossings in the borough; William Street, Main Street and here at Union Street. It was installed as a safety precaution after many accidents at the grade crossings. A fire in June, 1953 destroyed a warehouse on this lot, forcing the watchman to abandon the tower due to the heat and smoke.
