1. Murlin Heights Elementary School Flag Pole Marker
Inscription.
First erected in 1952, at the site of the newly-built Murlin Heights Elementary School, this flagpole stood there for 66 years.

In 2018, the Vandalia-Butler School district decided to close the school and have it demolished.

With the blessing of the Vandalia-Butler School board, the flagpole was removed by members of the Vandalia-Butler American Legion 668 and restored by the Pinnacle Flagpole Company for placement on the Post 668 property.

It was rededicated in November of 2023.

The honor of raising the American Flag on the restored pole at this site was given to Connie Strehle, the last principal of Murlin Heights Elementary School.
