Earth's Neighbor
The 2nd planet from the Sun, Venus is our closest planetary neighbor. Venus is 7,520 miles in diameter or roughly 95% the size of the Earth. The gravity on Venus is 90% of what we experience on Earth.
Thick Atmosphere
The atmosphere of Venus is 96.5% carbon dioxide with sulfuric acid clouds. At cloud level or about 30 miles up from the surface, the atmosphere is about the same as on the surface of the Earth.

Mythology

Surface Conditions
Surface temperatures can exceed 880 degrees Fahrenheit. On the Venus surface it would look like a very hazy, overcast day on Earth. The surface is characterized by tens of thousands of volcanos.
Venus formed 4.5 billion years ago when gravity collected swirling gas and dust to become the second planet from the [S]un. Like other terrestrial planets, Venus has a central core, a rocky mantle and a solid crust.
It takes 117 Earth days for Venus to experience one day. This is because Venus takes 225 Earth days to orbit the Sun as it completes one very slow backward rotation.
