Opened in 1958, the Douglas County. Courthouse is one of the few remaining structures in the International Style of architecture. Since time, it has become the museum of history and art.

Regarding Douglas County Museum of History & Art. When the new courthouse was opened in 1998, the old courthouse was declared "surplus" and slated for sale and disposal. The Douglas County Tourism and History Commission persuaded the Board of Commissioners to save the building because of its unique architectural style and it is listed on the National
Register of Historic Places.
