1. Fremont Row Houses Marker
Inscription. This rare grouping of twenty 1870s Italianate-style row houses was designed by Edward J. Burling, one of Chicago's earliest and important architects. They were conceived as a unified composition with similar incised window hoods and a common wood cornice. This is among the earliest and largest-surviving grouping of masonry row houses built after the Chicago Fire of 1871.
