Regarding Bethaniëndwarsstraat 15 Memorial. The names, places and dates of death tell the story that the plaque itself is silent about - these persons were all Jews who lived here and were deported to their deaths at either the Auschwitz or Sobibor extermination camps.

Isaac, the head of the family, reported to Westerbork in November 1942, for the Arbeitseinsatz. He thought he would be put to work in a factory and thus had a chance of surviving the war. However, three days later he was put on a transport to Auschwitz where he was murdered on 13 November 1942. A few months later, his wife Maria was called up to report to Westerbork. A week later, she was also put on transport to the Sobibor extermination camp in Poland, where she was murdered in the gas chamber on 26 March 1943, immediately after arrival.(Submitted on November 19, 2024.)
Three weeks later, the young De Vries family – father Samson, mother Sara and 5-year-oldIsaac – were also arrested and taken to the Vught concentration camp. Samson was put to work in the Moerdijk satellite camp. His wife Sara and their son Isaac lived in the children's barracks in Vught. The SS found those children a nuisance. The intention was for the adults to work, and with all those children, that didn't work out very well. That's why they decided to take all the children away in June 1943. The 1,300 children were taken to Sobibor via Westerbork on the infamous children's transport, where they were murdered immediately. The mothers and supervisors were also gassed. Rosa and Sara Wagenhuis were also among them.’
Their youngest sister Catherina was arrested on 26 May 1943 during the last large-scale raid in Amsterdam. She was also shipped to Sobibor via Westerbork and murdered there.’
