1. The Governor's Mansion Marker
Inscription. Governor George W. Hendee, the only governor of Vermont from Morrisville, had this house built in 1878. Mr. Hendee went on to represent Vermont in the Unites States House of Representatives from 1873 to 1879.

This house is a 2½-story, three-bay building in the French Second Empire style. On the north elevation is a 1½-story ell with dormers and entry porches.

3. George Whitman Hendee (1832-1906)
He became Vermont's 32nd governor upon the death of his predecessor, serving the remaining eight months of his term in 1870. Hendee was not the Republican nominee for a full term because of the party's Mountain Rule, which specified alternating gubernatorial nominees between the east and west sides of the Green Mountains.
