1. 1735 Marker

Inscription. Sieur Jean Baptiste Girardot established a trading post in the vicinity of Cape Rock in the middle of the 18th century. This remote outpost became a gathering place for river travelers. By 1765, maps of the Mississippi River identified the bend in the river north of this site as "Cape Girardot."
