Dedriot Residence
George Dedroit (1859-1936), cornetist and bandleader, John Johnny Dedroit (1892-1988), and Paul Dedroit (1894-1963), drummer and percussionist, lived here at 6119 Camp Street from 1917 to 1936, 1929, and 1929 respectively. George led his own Dedroit's Military Band and Orchestra, and held the post of President and then Secretary of Musicians Union Local No. 174. His son Johnny was a cornet soloist at age 12, and played in every New Orleans theater orchestra, as well as in Jack Laines bands. He led and recorded with his own jazz band in the 1920s, had a successful dance orchestra for over thirty years, and was Local No. 174 President at three different times. Paul played drums in theater orchestras, Laines bands, and his brother Johnnys bands. He later had a successful career in California as a percussionist for Twentieth Century-Fox and was a member of the Glendale Symphony.
