Inscription.
The Bijou Theatre has operated almost continuously on this site for more than 100 years. The original Bijou, constructed in 1910, was one of the earliest theaters in Vermont to show “talkies”. It was razed in 1937 and this building was erected as a larger, modern, and more glamorous replacement. Built in the Art Deco style, the original triangular marquee had enameled metal, colored light bulbs, and “Bijou” in red neon letters. In the mid-nineties, Bill and Cherie Jarvis purchased the Bijou, renovated it, and it reopened as a multiplex on June 21, 1996.

Large Attendance is Present at Opening of New Bijou Theatre in Morrisville
By Homer L. Bentley, Morrisville Messenger
With an enthusiastic audience packing the enlarged auditorium to capacity, Mrs. Gussie L. Emmons formally opened the modernized Bijou theatre in Morrisville to the public on Labor Day night. Every town in the county was represented, while many came from towns in Washington and Caledonia Counties, and all were generous in the commendation of the excellent sound system and the artistic design and decorations of the theatre.
