[English]
The Stanstead area was important in the beginnings of Adventism, a doctrine based on the second coming of Christ, in the Eastern Townships. William Miller, Adventism's founder, preached in the county as early as 1835.
Built in 1866 by church trustee Jeremiah Spear, this colonial style church was first called the Union Meeting House and also served the Methodist, Anglican, Universalist and Baptist congregations. The Advent Christian Church has had exclusive use of the building since 1893. The congregation has always consisted of Americans and Canadians.
The triangular pediment (1) and the two pilasters (2) frame the building's facade and the two doors (3), (4), (originally one for men and one for women), and a shuttered window (5). The two doorways are crowned by unadorned entablatures (6) supported by plain pilasters (7).
