En 1857, le Rév W.L. Thompson est envoyé à Stanstead sous les auspices de la Colonial Church and School Society, une organisation missionnarie aspirant à propager, dans les colonies, la foi selon la tradition anglicane. Il établit son église dans un magasin, mais rapidement, cet espace s'avère tu étroit pour la congrégation grandissante. Suite à une levée de fonds, la pierre angulaire de l'église Christ Church est posée le 30 juin 1858, --- d'une cérémonie à laquelle assistent des membres de la loge maçonnique Golden Rule. L'église de style néogothique, construite en ---- est achevée la même année.

Le plan en croix distingue cette église des lieux de culte protestants conventionnels, qui sont habituellement de plan rectangulaire. Les ----- (1) contiennent de splendides vitraux (2) érigés à la mémoire de paroissiens. Le beffroi (3) est ajouté en 1908 grâce à l'aide financien les Francs-maçons dont plusieurs membres occupent des postes clés dans la congrégation anglicane locale.

a missionary organization whose goal was the establishment of the faith in the colonies according to Anglican tradition. Church services were held regularly in a local store, but this space soon became too small for the growing congregation. Following a fund-raising campaign, the cornerstone of Christ Church was laid on June 30th, 1858, with members of the Golden Rule Masonic Lodge in attendance. The Neo-Gothic church, built of local stone, was completed within the year.

The cruciform plan of the building distinguishes it from the rectangular pattern of the more conventional Protestant churches of the period. Several of the painted window arches (1) contain splendid stained glass memorials to former parishioners. With generous support from the Freemasons, many of whose members held key positions in the congregation, the bell tower (3) was added in 1908. added in 1908
