Central Omaha in Douglas County, Nebraska — The American Midwest (Upper Plains)
Freedom is Not Free
This monument is dedicated to the men and women who served their country with great pride and honor and had the misfortune to be prisoners of war.
These members of the armed forces were subject to death marches, exposure to harsh elements, hard labor, torture, solitary confinement, starvation and attempted brain washing.
We thank them for their honorable service.
Barbed wire and bayonet points encircle the American Eagle while standing "with pride and dignity, continually on the alert for the opportunity to seize hold of beloved freedom."
