Vernon Methodist Church is architecturally significant as a substantially intact and imposing example of eclectic, late Victorian religious architecture in the village of Vernon. Built in 1892 to the design of regional architect Melvin H. Hubbard, the rectangular, wood frame church building is dominated by a massive entrance/bell tower surmounted by a bellcast slate roof. The interior features an Akron plan design incorporating a diagonal, sloped seating plan and large sliding doors separating the sanctuary from the adjacent parish hall. Erected to serve a Methodist congregation established ca. 1822, the present Vernon Methodist Church edifice reflects the eclectic exuberance characteristic of Hubbard's architectural designs during the late Victorian era, and is an important extant example of his work in central New York
