1. Barnes-Ulmer Cottage Marker
Inscription. Cottage built for Walter Lafayette Barnes, Sr. (1892-1962), plumbing contractor; and wife, Mae Marie Costin (1895-1979). Summer residence of daughter, Doris Barnes (1915-2002); and husband, William Joseph Ulmer, Jr. (1914-1993), claims clerk for the Southern Railway; and son, Walter L. Barnes, Jr. (1925-1996), employed by the US Department of Interior; and wife, Nancy Bryant (1927-1989), native of Chase City, Va. The cottage remained in the family until 2010.
