At no. 68, rue Sedaine, a commemorative plaque recalls that during the First World War many Oriental Jews, mainly from Egypt, Turkey, Lebanon, then under the domination of the Ottoman Empire, fought in the French ranks. It was in this building that a recruitment office for Jewish volunteers was opened on August 24, 1914, several hundred of whom died for France.(Submitted on December 5, 2024.)
