This statue portrays a fully laden WWII paratrooper jumping from a C-47 aircraft and into a combat zone below. Although depicting a chapter in the history of the American Airborne legend, it serves to represent all American Airborne troopers, signifying their high morale, strict self-discipline, and unflagging willingness to sacrifice. This memorial stands as a tribute to all American paratroopers of all services, alive and dead, serving and inactive, who have volunteered to put their "knees to the breeze." It reminds those who gaze upon it that they should be thankful that there are American men and women - past, present, and future - who stand ready and willing to answer the nation's call for Airborne forces.
