Inscription. The gravel was carried out of Edison Woods to the Lake Shore Electric Trolley Line on Route 61. It was used to construct a trolley line from Ceylon to Norwalk.

From the 1890s to the 1930s electric-powered interurban trains or trolleys connected towns across the region. Trolleys stopped at crossroads, houses, fields, or whenever a passenger pulled a cable. The Lake Shore Trolley Line ran from Cleveland to Lorain, Ceylon, Berlin Heights and Norwalk where it met the Toledo, Fremont, Norwalk line.

This rail bed and the ridge on the west side of Route 61 are remnants of the interurban or trolley period of American transportation history.

[Captions:]
Look to both sides of the Adventure Walkway to see evidence of a railroad track used to carry gravel from the gravel pit...

There are other abandoned railbeds in Edison Woods. One of these went to the quarries and is now the South Ridge Trail.
