George Zegouras was known as the Mayor of the people he served as a City Councillor from 1973 to 1980 and as Mayor from 1980 to 1991 and again from 2000 to 2003.
George Zegouras was the Mayor when Bellevilles City Hall underwent a major renovation in 1988. That renovation expanded the capacity of City Hall to provide the municipality with the space it needed to continue to operate out of this historically designated building. Market Square was also renovated at that time and continues to house the Belleville Farmers Market as it has since 1816.
