1. Rush-Steljes Store Marker

Inscription. Greek Revival Charleston single style store with residence above built for Antonio Rush (1814- 1896), native of Portugal, grocer; and wife, Emiline Louisa Silva (1830-1906), native of New York. Purchased in 1859 by Diedrich Steljes (1833-1902), native of Kingdom of Hanover, grocer; and wife, Mary Frances Pugh (1843-1915), native of Covington, Mississippi. Purchased in 1923 by Edward Thomas Malpass (1877-1964). Later converted into a residence. Saved for preservation by Historic Wilmington Foundation in 1995.
