Inscription. The house visible across the highway from this point were originally constructed as workers’ homes for hourly employees. Although Tennessee Copper Company and its successors provided this kind of standard “mail-order” housing for some workers in both Ducktown and Copperhill, most employees did not live in company housing. The company never owned more that about 400 houses, even when employment peaked at more than 2,500 workers during the boom years of the 1950s. All of the remaining company houses are now privately owned.
