1. King-Thorpe House Marker

Inscription. Queen Anne style house built for Charles Humphrey King (1838-1909), native of New York, Confederate veteran, and partner in Robinson & King, naval stores; and wife, Mary J. King (1840-unk.). Purchased in 1904 by William Bennett Thorpe (1874-1963), native of Rocky Mount, N.C., president of W. B. Thorpe & Co., builders' supplies; and wife, Margaret Meares (1874-1969).
