Hier werd door de S.V. “Onze Woning" onder impuls van het Stadsbestuur en gesteund door de Nat. Mij. v.d. huisvesting terug een hart gegeven aan de oude stadskern.

De bronzen symboliek welke dit feit herdenkt is van de hand van de Antwerpse kunstenaar Sam Herciger. Zin werd onthuld door Staatssecretaris Roger de Wulf op 29 September 1978.

Here the Social Housing Collective “Our Home”, by order of the City Council and supported by the National Housing Company, became the heart of the old city centre.

The bronze that commemorates this is by the Antwerp artist Sam Herciger. It was unveiled by State Secretary Roger de Wulf on September 29, 1978.

Regarding “Onze Woning”. In the 1970’s this area was going to be demolished. Under protest, the city council relented , and the old area was restored. Thus the old “heart” of the city was saved and gives the city a place to grow from.
