More about this marker. The 1915 Century Building and the nearby Consumers Building, two doors
south, are owned by the U.S. General Services Administration, which acquired them in 2005 based on the need for increased security around the Dirksen Federal Building. For several years since, the GSA had slated these two historical buildings for demolition, citing safety concerns; in August 2024, after opposition from many preservation groups as well as official landmark designations from the City of Chicago, the GSA announced that it would seek to preserve the two buildings for "viable adaptive re-use."

3. Century Building
"Float" is displayed on the Century Building at State and Adams. The Century and its neighbor the Consumers Building (on the far left of the photo) were threatened with demolition for several years until the General Services Administration announced in 2024 that it would seek to preserve the buildings instead.
