1. James J. Allen House Marker
Inscription. Neoclassical Revival style house built for James Joseph Allen (1874-1953), native of Michigan, commission merchant and wholesale grocer; and wife, Marion Banks (1878-1967). Purchased in 1912 by John Haar (1844-1921), Register of Deeds for 18 years; and wife, Margaret Tienken (1855-1934). They were natives of Germany.

3. John Haar, Jr. (1844-1921)
A native of Hannover, Germany, he emigrated to the United States at 21 and arrived in Wilmington three years later. He operated a grocery, a saloon and sold insurance before becoming New Hanover County Register of Deeds in 1891. He held the post until 1896, and again in 1906-1918.
