1. Grant-Thompson House Marker
Inscription. Built for James Grant (1818-1892), merchant. Purchased in 1848 by James M. Thompson (1820-1848), dealer in naval stores. His widow, Rachel Murray Whitledge (1823-1918), resided here for forty years. They were natives of Onslow County. Purchased in 1890 by Robert R. Bellamy (1861-1926), wholesale druggist. He enlarged and remodeled the house in Queen Anne style for use as rental property. House remained in the Bellamy family for fifty-six years.
