Tunica in Tunica County, Mississippi — The American South (East South Central)
The Tate Log House
This dogtrot style cypress log cabin was constructed in the 1840s on land near Robinsonville, Mississippi. Samuel Kerr purchased the land and cabin residence in the 1860s. The cabin was converted to a plantation commissary when Robert F. and Simpson Tate purchased the land in 1890. Mrs. Christine Tate sold the land in 1952 to the Leatherman family. In the early 1990s the cabin was moved south to Elsie and Sterling Sarge Seabrooks property at OK Landing near Austin, Mississippi. Richard and Carroll Seabrook Leatherman donated the cabin to Tunica Museum in 2000, which brought the cabin to its present location in the town of Tunica, making this the most traveled structure in Tunica County.

Excerpt: See how our past residents really lived. The Tate Log Home Museum isnt the antebellum mansion youd expect from the Mississippi Delta, but its the real deal. See the 19th-century beds, clothing and tools that folks in Tunica used back in the day. Built in 1840, this dogtrot-style log house is the oldest structure in the county, making it a must-see on your list of historical spots.(Submitted on December 17, 2024, by Cosmos Mariner of Cape Canaveral, Florida.)
