Spirit of the Games
The atmosphere and energy of the Games enveloped every corner of Utah. Utahns bought 40 percent of available tickets to witness athletic excellence and cheer competitors from around the world. Over 20,000 extra Paralympic event tickets were made available due to strong local demand. Camaraderie was omnipresent, pins were traded and Roots berets became highly-coveted mementos. Unforgettable moments embedded deeply in the collective memory of generations of Utahns.
Team 2002
Mitt Romney
Mitt Romney served as the President and CEO of the Salt Lake Organizing Committee for the Salt Lake 2002 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.
Romney's appointment in 1999 came amidst a period of crisis when accusations of impropriety during Utah's Olympic bid prompted leadership changes in the local organizing committee and policy changes within the International Olympic Committee. Romney refocused the Games on the athletes, ethical conduct, and altruism. This realignment, combined with dedicated staff, leadership, and over 24,000 volunteers who rallied around Romney, resulted in one of the most successful international sporting events to date.
Previously, Romney was a co-founder of Bain Capital, a leading investment company, and served as turnaround CEO of Bain & Company, an international management consulting firm.
Following the Salt Lake 2002 Olympic and Paralympic Games, Romney served as Governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts from 2003 through 2007. Romney was a candidate for the 2008 Republican presidential nomination and became the 2012 Republican nominee for President of the United States. Romney began serving as United States Senator for the state of Utah in January 2019.

For his Olympic service, Bullock received the Olympic Order in Gold from the International Olympic Committee.
Bullock is Partner and Co-Founder of Sorenson Capital. He began his career as a consultant and manager at Bain & Company. He then became a founding partner of Bain Capital, a highly successful investment firm based in Boston.
Bullock continues to be active in the Olympic Movement and has provided advisory services to the International Olympic Committee, the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee, and several cities hosting the Olympic Games, including Torino, Vancouver, Sochi, and Rio. Bullock serves on the Utah Olympic Legacy Foundation board of directors, where he has also served as Chair.
